Planning and designing a Safe System - How to move Victoria to zero road deaths and serious injuries by 2050

Road crashes are one of the leading causes of death and serious injury globally. This thesis investigates how to design a road transport system to help eliminate road deaths and serious injuries in Victoria, Australia by 2050. It used the principles that humans are physically fragile and make mistakes as road users to guide the design of a transport system to protect them. It identifies the combination of vehicle, infrastructure and travel speed requirements to achieve significant road trauma reductions while achieving transport objectives.
