In this study phytoplankton communities sampled from northern, southern Baltic and Kattegat area waters were tested for changes in response to light spectra using ten day incubation experiments and DNA barcoding. Spectra were of browning light based on that caused by chromophoric dissolved organic matter, a bluer spectrum based on oligotrophic ocean waters, and an extreme red spectrum.
