THE TRANS-AFGHAN RAILWAY PROJECT: UZBEKISTAN'S DIPLOMACY OF CONNECTIVITY AND GEOSTRATEGIC INTEGRATION IN CENTRAL AND SOUTH ASIA

This research paper comprehensively investigates the geostrategic, geoeconomic, and political implications of the Trans-Afghan Railway project (Termez–Mazar-i-Sharif–Kabul–Peshawar) within the framework of Uzbekistan's modern foreign policy and regional transport diplomacy. As a double-landlocked state, Uzbekistan faces structural trade constraints that elevate transport diversification to a matter of paramount national security. Applying the theoretical framework of 'connectivity diplomacy' and economic interdependence, this study analyzes how the Trans-Afghan corridor serves as a vital catalyst for integrating Central and South Asia, transforming Uzbekistan from a peripheral landlocked nation into a dynamic regional transit hub. Furthermore, the paper evaluates financial architectures, security paradigms, and cooperative multilateral mechanisms necessary for executing this megaproject.
