Effectiveness of Self-Leadership Intervention on Burnout and Recovery Experience from Work

The purpose of current study was to investigate the effectiveness of self-leadership intervention on burnout and recovery experience from work. A semi-experimental, of pre-test-post-test type with a control group was conducted (n=30). In order to measure burnout and recovery experience from work, Burnout Assessment Tool (BAT) and Recovery Experience from Work questionnaire (REQ) were utilized. The results of the covariance analysis showed that 6 sessions of self-leadership training leads to a reduction in core and secondary dimensions of burnout (50%, 23% respectively) and an increase in the recovery experience from work (48%). In the terms of burnout, self-leadership intervention has been significant in the dimensions of exhaustion (47%), mental distance (34%), cognitive impairment (16%). While, no significant impact demonstrated in emotional impairment dimension. Moreover, the results were significant in all four dimensions of recovery experience from work (psychological detachment (26%), relaxation (25%), mastery experience (44%) and control (31%)). The self-leadership intervention was effective on employee’s burnout and recovery experience from work. Regarding to conversation of resource theory, self-leadership intervention by providing additional resources, can improve the experience of recovery from work while reducing job stress and, as a result, burnout.
