Volume of natural gas produced in Ghana 2015-2023

In 2023, natural gas production in Ghana reached 2.9 million metric tons of oil equivalent. In the previous year, production stood at around 9.98 million metric tons of oil equivalent. This represented a peak, considering the volume generated since 2015. As of 2019, the country produced around 1.4 million metric tons of oil equivalent of this fossil fuel. That year, natural gas rents represented approximately 0.4 percent of Ghana's GDP. Several gas fields contribute to the outputJubilee, Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP), and Tweneboa Enyenra Ntomme (TEN) are Ghana's main gas-producing fields. Together, they produced over 204 billion standard cubic feet of natural gas in 2021. That year, Jubilee led in the production volume, although this slightly differed from the other fields. In fact, since 2017, the natural gas output for Jubilee, TEN, and OCTP has progressively increased. The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation has played a vital role in the exploitation of hydrocarbon resources in the country. Ghana's gas supply and tradeIn December 2021, 480 million standard cubic feet per day of natural gas were supplied in Ghana, a level that had kept stable since April of that year. The largest proportion of the supply was from the nation's production, as against imported gas. Nonetheless, in the same year, around 19 trillion British thermal units of the fossil fuel were imported into Ghana. This was significantly high compared to the amount of natural gas exported by the country.
