Diversity and stability of the gut microbiome of the giant Neotropical bullet ant

We describe the endosymbiotic bacterial communities of the ant Paraponera clavata with an emphasis on the environmental factors that may impact the recovered diversity. We find that geography plays little role in structuring the microbiota of this ant species and that, generally, the communities are composed of transient species and that the core bacterial taxa are limited to few taxa.
