Data in this dataset pertain to an 18-month research project, funded by the AHRC (AH/X007146/1) about how Public Service Media around the world use AI to inform or assist in journalism production. This was conducted under the auspices of the Bridging Responsible AI Divides project. The sole grantee of this project was Kate Wright and the project mentor was Melissa Terras. The project was co-designed together with the global Public Media Alliance and involved 13 participating PSM from Australia, Belgium, Jamaica, Japan, Moldova, New Zealand, Sweden, South Africa, Switzerland, Taiwan and Ukraine. The data collection here includes a/a README document detailing the project's RQs, methods, and how these map onto the various stages of the project b/a table of all 13 participating organisations, including their location, level of income, audiences and which stages of the research project they participated in c/ an aggregated dataset of the AI tools that participating organisations said they used officially to inform or assist in journalism production, inc. data used, functionality and limitations d/a database analysing the commercial companies that supply the AI tools cited by participants, including their location, size, ownership, investors and other indications of financial transparency and e/ a document discussing the ethical and access issues involved in the project.
