This study is based on the hypothesis that ethylene-auxin interaction plays a significant role in apple storage life and quality during the postharvest period. This hypothesis was tested by investigating fruit flesh firmness and hormone levels in parallel with transcriptome changes by RNA sequencing. In this study, a detailed investigation of hormone metabolism-related gene expression within the whole transcriptome was conducted in 'Golden Delicious' apples throughout the 6-month storage period to elucidate the molecular mechanisms involved in postharvest ripening and senescence.
