Digital Archive from Archaeological Monitoring and Recording at St. Mary the Virgin Church, Church Hill, Lawford, Essex, November 2024

This collection comprises images, survey drawings, site records, project brief and Written Scheme of Investigation from an archaeological monitoring and recording at St. Mary the Virgin Church, Church Hill, Lawford, Essex. Work was carried out by Colchester Archaeological Trust in November 2024. St Mary's Church and churchyard is located on Church Hill, near Lawford Hall, approximately 400m north-west of the main village of Lawford. The church is Grade I listed. The works were undertaken in advance of the construction of a new heating plant for the church. Approximately 84m of trenching was excavated along with a small pit. No in situ burials or archaeological features were impacted by the groundworks, but some disarticulated human bone was recovered and left on site for reburial.
