Carbon Monitor is a real-time global CO₂ emission monitoring dataset developed by the Department of Earth System Science of Tsinghua University and other institutions. This dataset includes daily CO₂ emission data since January 1, 2019, covering major countries and regions across the globe. It covers daily emission volumes from six core emission sectors: power generation, industry, ground transportation, aviation, maritime shipping, and residential consumption. During its development, researchers calculated emissions using multiple activity datasets such as electricity production, industrial production index, transportation index, combined with emission factors. The Carbon Monitor dataset has a wide range of applications, mainly used for scientific research and policy-making. Particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, it was employed to monitor global CO₂ emission changes and post-pandemic recovery trends.
