Delivery mode and intrapartum antibiotics affect the gut mycobiota in newborn infants and young children

Microbes of several types comprise the microbiota, including bacteria, viruses, fungus, archaea, and protozoa. While the human gut microbiota has been widely investigated over the last decade, we continue to lack data outside of the bacteriome. However, understanding of the functions of fungi in the gut, or the gut mycobiota, has begun to grow in both animals and humans.
