multi bodi site study of Bolivar amerindian microbiome

Amerindians from Yekwana and Yanomami-Sanema villages in a region of 100 sq Km in Southern Bolivar State of Venezuela were recruited. There were 7 small villages which had low exposure to visitors and medicines and 1 village which had medium exposure to Western visitors and medicines (a medical post built in this village supplying medicines, antibiotics, antiparasitic and vaccines). In total, 118 subjects from low exposure villages and 79 subjects from medium exposure village were recruited in 2015, before the low exposure villages started Ivermectin treatment; 161 subjects from low exposure villages and 74 subjects from medium exposure village were recruited in 2016, after all villages received Ivermectin treatment (see Table S5 for details). Samples were taken from nose, mouth, skin (on the right arm and right hand), and feces by swabbing, and were immediately frozen in dry shippers in the field.
