Generic circumscription within sub tribe Manilkarinae

The Manilkarinae are a monophyletic subtribe consisting of four genera: Manilkara Adans., Labramia A.DC., Faucherea Lecomte and Labourdonnaisia Bojer. Previous phylogenetic studies raised taxonomic issues concerning unclear generic delimitations and unresolved relationships. .The main aims of this study are to understand the evolutionary history of subtribe Manilkarinae, to resolve the problem of generic circumscription and to discern relevant morphological characters to support the molecular analyses.These main goals have been approached by (i) a phylogenetic reconstruction, using 787-protein coding genes, including an exploration of the phylogenetic tree space and a time divergence estimation; (ii) a morphological analysis based on flower characters; and (iii) an ancestral state reconstruction (ASR) combining the output of the former analyses.
