Microbial processes are involved in the immobilization and removal of groundwater contaminants such as iron, arsenic, manganese, and ammonium in household sand filters in Hanoi, Vietnam. Sand filter material was collected in different depth layers. 16S rRNA genes were amplified using universal primers 515F and 806R. Subsequent library preparation steps (Nextera, Illumina) and 250 bp paired-end sequencing with MiSeq (Illumina, San Diego, CA, USA) using v2 chemistry and between 19,219 and 259,470 read pairs were obtained for each sample.
