Proteomic Guided Broad-Spectrum Antivenom Development with Cross-Species Efficacy Against Medically Significant Venomous Snakes in Malaysia

Snakebites can be deadly, especially in countries like Malaysia, where many dangerous snakes live. Current antivenoms are often designed for specific snake species, making treatment difficult when the exact snake species is unknown. This research aims to develop a broader, more effective antivenom. It studies the harmful proteins in snake venom and identifies which ones trigger the body’s immune response. These key proteins are then used to produce protective antibodies. By targeting shared venom components across different snakes, this approach could lead to a universal antivenom that works against multiple species, improving treatment outcomes and saving more lives
