VPRS 11869 Notices of Sale by Auction (Sale Bills)

This series was created by the Enquiry Branch of the Department of Crown Lands and Survey (VA 538).The series consists of individual notices of sale of Crown lands in fee-simple bound in volumes. Although the preparation of Sale Bills was mandated from 1860, the records in custody only cover sales conducted from 1890 to 1983 when the department was succeeded by VA 1034 Department of Conservation, Forests and Lands.These notices were prepared by the branch prior to the sale and a printed sample had to be checked and if necessary corrected before distribution. Examination included correction of printing mistakes as well as necessary checks with the appropriate district Land Office in relation to allotments being put up for sale. Related comments and telegraphs concerning the withdrawal of certain allotments from proposed sale are attached to the relevant notices. For some allotments a cross reference to a corresponding parish plan and/or to a related file was provided.This series is arranged chronologically by the date range covered. Each bound volume has the relevant date range marked on the spine. There is an alphabetical index at the front of each volume which provides page number references to the notices for each place of sale.
