Twenty-nine client-owned, clinically healthy, overweight or obese adult canines of diverse breeds were randomized to one of three weight loss diets containing: 1.) 0% bean powder (control); 2.) 25% black bean powder; or 3.) 25% navy bean powder. Fecal samples were collected at baseline (week 0) and following a 4-week weight loss phase on the treatment diets. Genomic DNA was extracted, PCR amplicon library was generated (16S rRNA gene; V4-V6), and 454-pyrosequencing was performed.
