Labour Force Sample Survey 3rd quarter 1988 - 4th quarter 1989, panel file, recoded

SSB has conducted official quarterly labor force surveys (LFS) as of Q1 1972. The survey aims to provide labor authorities and others knowledge about the occupational structure of population and development over time. The surveys provide the basis and statistical material for occupational forecasting and labor market research. In the LFS respondents are interviewed two consecutive quarters, then after two more quarters they are interviewed again in two consecutive quarters. Labour Force Survey 1972 is the first complete LFS year long survey. Originally it was intended that such statistics would be a more analytical supplement to the monthly employment statistics based on the insurance fund membership files. The insurance fund-based statistics, however, fell away when health insurance was included in the National Insurance Scheme from 1 January 1971, the LFS has gradually evolved to become the main source of knowledge about the state of the labor market. In the table above this means that one could connect all the groups (lines) marked X. Participation 4 times is used as a selection criterion. In 1975 there was a break in the Panel systematics, see 1975. With the Labour Force Survey 1976, it adopted a slightly modified questionnaire and returned to the original six-quarter rotation plan, which has been stable since. Looking at a particular column, for example. Q1 1988, we see that one quarter of respondents are included for 4th time, 3rd time etc, put together they summarise the total material for one quarter. Quarterly weighting allows one such quarter (column) can be balanced with national figures. Taking 4 quarters and add them toghether into one year, the quarter weights must be divided by 4 to give the correct weighted figures for vintage. Panel files go in the other direction (horizontally) and each panel will have four weights, one for each quarter, and although they do not differ much they will be prepared independently and each weight should be used only for data made from the quarterly weight. Weighted figures counts as a group, ie approximately 25% of the total quarterly sample and must therefore multiply by 4 to get approximately the national quarterly. By "almost national quarterly" it means that since panel connectors implies a specific selection process, therefore it may appear minor differences from the weighted national numbers one gets for each quarter This panel file includes my group 71 in the table. The weights in the original file is prepared for use monthly quarterly weights are developed by dividing weight in 3 months.
