ISM1 is the founding member of a novel secreted proteins family that is characterized by the presence of two domains: a central TSR (thrombospondin type 1 repeat) and a C-terminal AMOP (adhesion-associated domain in MUC4 and other proteins). The biological functions of ISM 1 remains generally unknown. Here we found its role in mammary gland branching morphogenesis and development.
