VPRS 18406 Distance Statistics Books

The records in this series document Victorian Railways distance statistics. These statistics were used to provide a summary of the distance travelled by vehicles, goods and passengers transported, and were used for reports, submissions and planning of services.Information recorded in the statistic books includes:- Gross Ton Miles/Kilometres in Sections: showing down and up for all types of services (passenger, goods, rail motor and departmental)- Section Totals: showing figures for passenger, goods and rail motor- Goods: district totals, district by period, district by section- Passenger Country: district totals, district by period and district by section- Passenger Suburban: locomotive hauled, district totals, district by period and district by section- Rail Motor: district totals, district by period and district by section- Departmental: district by period and district by section- Border Railways: yearly summaries- Mileage Statistic of Goods by type: e.g. regular, general, wool, manure, fruit, meat, flour, metal, livestock, wheat, wood, coal/oilResearchers should note the statistics were originally recorded in miles (imperial system) until 1974, then statistics were recorded in kilometres (SI metric system).
