Management of anatomical root structure in lower premolars with Vertucci type V morphology

Mandibular premolars with complex anatomic aberrations have been reported, making endodontic
treatment of these teeth extremely difficult. A case of endodontic treatment of a mandibular first
premolar presenting bifurcation of the root canal with two independent canals (Vertucci type V
root canal configuration) was described. A 58-year-old woman with no significant medical history
presented with a primary complaint of pain in a previously endodontically treated tooth. Clinical
examination revealed pain on thermal tests. Intraoral periapical radiographs taken at different
angulations revealed a root with a bifurcation at the apical third. The canals were prepared and
individually filled using the vertical continuous wave obturation technique
