Distribution of tallest buildings worldwide 1960-2023, by structural material

The structure of over half of the 100 tallest buildings in the world as of 2023 was constructed with composite materials. During the past decades, the most popular structural materials used for the construction of the highest skyscrapers changed a lot. While 93 of the 100 tallest buildings were made of steel in 1960, that number decreased to 7 skyscrapers by 2023.
