Longitudinal assessment of the bovine ocular microbiome

A disease commonly found among the beef cattle industry is Infectious Bovine Keraconjunctivitis (IBK), better known as pinkeye. With limited intervention strategies, resulting outbreaks are left treated using antibiotics. This is partly due to the lack of studies evaluating the establishment of the bovine ocular microbiome to identify critical times of IBK outbreak. Within this study, we conducted a longitudinal investigation consisting of 239 calves on trial to look the resilience of the ocular microbiome over time.
