Microbial transfer from soil and indoor plants to human skin

This study sought to understand the dynamics of microbial transfer from outdoor-sourced soil and leaves of several common indoor plants to human skin, and their ability to persist on skin over a 24-hour period, as well as through washing with soap and water. We also characterized microbial communities associated with potting mix from the indoor plants. This research is relevant to public health, as indoor plants are quite common in homes, offices, and commercial buildings, yet little is known about the microorganisms they harbor.
