Clinical and Demographic Data of a Sample of Staphylococcus aureus Cases in a Diverse County in Georgia in 2017

Burden estimates of S. aureus infections frequently fail to encompass the full spectrum of disease. Many burden estimates focus on hospital administrative data, which is restricted to hospital admissions and may be inaccurate. This study is the result of a time-limited expansion of S. aureus surveillance program by the Georgia Emerging Infections Program with the goal of collecting information for S. aureus infections in Fulton County, GA in 2017, including cases treated on an outpatient basis. A complex sample of cases was used, with invasive cases collected 1:1 and non-invasive cases collected 1:4. This dataset contains the sample of cases collected in 2017 by this study, and includes demographic and clinical characteristics for 1,647 total cases of invasive and non-invasive S. aureus infections.
