Canadian Gallup Poll, October 1979, #430b

This Gallup poll seeks the opinions of Canadians, on predominantly political issues. The questions ask opinions about the Federal budget and other political issues within the country and abroad. There are also questions on other topics of interest and importance to the country and government, such as capital punishment; job security and racial intolerance. The respondents were also asked questions so that they could be grouped according to geographic and social variables. Topics of interest include: the future of the economy; balancing the Federal budget; changing to the metric system; compulsory language classes in school; favouring capital punishment; finding a job if unemployed; the increase in racial intolerance; whether or not the IRA (Irish Republican Army) a terrorist group; whether or not the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization) a terrorist group; job security; news reporting in Canada; police officer's prejudice against minorities; police performance; the source of the most reliable news coverage; teaching religion in public schools; and why racial problems are increasing. Basic demographic variables are also included.
