Rumen samples from Bos indicus cattle were cultured using Rhodes grass (Chloris gayana) as a substrate in order to enrich for a consortium of lignocellulose degrading bacteria. DNA was extracted and used to construct a fosmid library that was screened to detect clones expressing cellulase activity.
