In 1974 preliminary work commenced on the major accommodation complex to serve Parliament House. It was to be the first major addition to Parliament House since the Legislative Assembly wing was erected in 1843. The complex planned consisted of two stages - a 13 storey block linked to a four level building. The Stage 1A building contained fourteen levels, the lowest four comprising parking, plant and recreation space, the next three levels comprising staff, library, storage, kitchen, dining and bar space, the next five containing office and meeting areas and the upper two levels plant space. The Stage 1B building contained four levels, the lowest level comprising library stack area, the next level a Media Centre and library work area, the third level the principal circulation space and accommodation for the Parliamentary officers, and the upper level office space for Parliamentary staff and Hansard. Work commenced on the building in 1976 and was completed in 1980. These records are specifications with quantities (unpriced) for the various subcontracts let in the construction of Stages 1A and 1B. They encompass all aspects of construction, fitting, finishing, furnishing and furniture. Also included are: a historic building survey on the Parliament House, November 1976; schedules of penetrations and finishes; specification and quantities for door schedule; and sundry other draft specifications.
