资源简介:
Fill samples from a privy at site 12P652 in west-central Indiana were examined for
pollen, parasites, phytoliths, and macrofloral remains. Site 12P652 is the late-nineteenth
century coal mining town of Nyesville, Indiana. This area is currently part of an agricultural
landscape. Nyesville was established in 1872 by the Sand Creek Coal Company for the
purpose of mining bituminous “block” coal. Artifacts indicate occupation ended by 1920 or
earlier. Pollen, phytolith, and macrofloral analyses will be used to provide information
concerning foods consumed by the local miners, while parasite analysis will lend insight to their
health.
