Genomic sequencing and analysis of the indigenous Land Race Vellai Kowwni rice-Partial

Vellai Kowni is an indigenous and underexplored traditional rice variety of Indian origin, known for its distinct aroma, sticky grain texture, and potential medicinal properties. In this study, whole-genome sequencing and comparative genomic analysis were performed on traditional rice varieties, including Vellai Kowni (VK) and Malumudingi (MM), with Seeraga Samba (SS) as a reference. The study aims to identify genetic variations, functional genes, and metabolic pathways associated with important biological traits such as stress tolerance and bioactive properties. Additionally, uncharacterized genes were analyzed to explore potential novel functional candidates contributing to the unique characteristics of these varieties. .
