Despite of extensive investigations related on foot-and-mouth (FMD) vaccine-mediated humoral immunity, their protective effects have not yet been perfected in pigs compared to cattle. This study was performed to understand the fundamental difference in immune response in cattle and pigs, to identify the mechanism of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) antigen itself or FMD vaccine-mediated immune responses, and to provide a solution to overcome low immunogenicity in pigs.
