Characterizing the impact of environmental toxicant exposure on mammalian ovaries

People and animals are regularly exposed to chemicals in the environment, but we do not fully understand how these chemicals affect women’s health and fertility. This thesis looked at a chemical called Atrazine and found that realistic exposure to it can harm the ovary and may increase the risk of infertility. It also showed that certain drugs, known as antioxidants, could help protect the ovaries from this damage. This work helps us understand how environmental chemicals can affect female fertility and points toward ways to prevent that harm.
