The aim of the 1002 Saccharomyces cerevisiae Genomes Project is to obtain the most comprehensive view of the genetic and phenotypic diversity within this model species to date. With the high-coverage sequencing of the genome of approximately 1,000 natural isolates (Illumina Hi-Seq technology), coupled to high-throughput phenotyping, the data generated in the context of this project lay the fondation for genome-wide association studies in yeast.
