Genomic characterization of cellulose producing bacterial strain Acetobacter pasteurianus RSV-4

Exceeding human population and depleting natural resources is one of the major concerns these days. To fulfill the growing demand of resources, new alternatives which are sustainable and renewable should be explored. Biopolymers such as bacterial cellulose could be one such bioresource. Till now, several organisms have been reported to produce bacterial cellulose. Recently we have identified and reported a bacterium RSV-4, which produces bacterial cellulose of high tensile strength and utilizes agriwaste as nutrient source. Here in this study, we report the genomic sequences of RSV-4 bacterium with focus on genes involved on bacterial cellulose biosynthesis. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that this bacterium belongs to Acetobacter pasteurianus.
