The grassland observed in the study is categorized as meadow steppe.
Canopy height of typical meadow steppe is about 0.6m in average and plant coverage is 60-80%.
At meadow steppe in Naiman region,grasses and herb constitute the plant community from mid-May to mid-September (about 140_150 days in a year) and total dry-matter product is evaluated as 1.5 - 2.5 ton/year.The measurement site at the grassland is 1.6km north-east from the Naiman Station.
The micrometeorological measurements were carried out intermittently from mid-May to mid-September in 1991.This grassland extends over a distance of 500 (north-south direction) and 350(east-west direction) m.
At the measurement site,the vegetation height of the grass was less than 0.15m (Nemoto et al., 1994),and the vegetation coverage and the above-ground biomass were 70-80% and 100g (dry weight) m-2, respectively .
During the observed period,grass at the site was fed to wool sheep (Korqin fine wool sheep) that belongs to village people.There is no data for the exact grazing density,however the vegetation condition (plant height,plant density and vegetation coverage) at the measurement site was almost the same as that at Light grazing site in 1992-1994.
The turbulent fluxes of sensible heat, latent heat, CO2 were measured using the Heat balance Bowen ratio method and the Gradient method.
