In 2023, Charlène de Carvalho-Heineken was the richest person in the Netherlands, with an estimated wealth of over 12.6 billion euros. The Dutch-English businesswoman is the owner of a 25 percent controlling interest in the world's second-largest brewer, Heineken International.  A small fish?   Compared to other billionaires worldwide, De Carvalho-Heineken’s assets are relatively modest. She ranked 89th on the list of the world’s leading billionaires in 2019, far behind the likes of Jeff Bezos (estimated assets of 131 billion U.S. dollars), Bill Gates (nearly 97 billion dollars) and Warren Buffet (82.5 billion dollars).  Fertile ground for millionaires   Charlène de Carvalho-Heineken was not the only rich inhabitant of the Netherlands. Quite the opposite: for such a small country, the Netherlands has a relatively high number of millionaires. In 2019, there were over 800,000 millionaires in the Netherlands on a population of roughly 17 million. That year, only ten other countries in the world had more individuals with a net worth over one million U.S. dollars than the Netherlands.
