Phage ESa1 was isolated from lake water using a methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus strain MRSN8383 for phage enrichment. ESa1 was able to lyse 87/103 (84.5%) of diverse clinical isolates of S. aureus from military patients, 102 of which were MRSA (methicillin-resistant S. aureus).
