VPRS 976 Appropriation Books

The Public Works Department (VA 669) had wide-ranging responsibilities for all public works and buildings, including construction, maintenance and fitting out of these buildings. Other major responsibilities included roads and bridges, ports and harbours, local government and water supply.This series contains records which relate the issue of authorities or appropriations granted by Parliament to their expenditure. Each double folio is headed with the contract or work to which the record relates. On the lefthand side is recorded the number and amount of the authority or appropriation and a summary of its expenditure or any cancellations. On the righthand page is recorded the details of the expenditures made under that authority or contract. These details include the contract number, the particulars and the amount.
