Hooded Plover Population Analysis

The project will provide the opportunity to undertake a study on the NSW Hooded Plover population and differences in the two fragmented sub-populations that now exist. This would include further investigation:
• into the movement of individuals (both adults and newly fledged chicks) between these populations through a continued flagging/banding program by NPWS and spatial analysis of movement data
• analysis of the degree of isolation that might exist due to the geographical isolation of the northern most population (through genetic analysis of paternity of Hooded Plover adults already in the population and degree of genetic isolation/distinction) .
• the degree of interaction between the NSW sub-populations and deciphering of ‘source’ and ‘sink’ populations and the degree of movement into the Victorian Gippsland region.
This project is part of the overall project for Hooded Plover conservation. OEH has committed to delivering detailed, spatially explicit, comprehensive and objective based projects to enable cost effective investment in conservation. All sites for the hooded plover have been mapped and actions for priority locations are publicly available.
