Uma Nota Sobre as Disparidades de Renda dos Municípios Nordestinos

Abstract Considering the growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Northeast in the last years, this study aims to analyze if such growth occurred in a way to reduce the income disparities between the municipalities of this region. For this, the hypothesis of ��-convergence, absolute and conditional, as well as ��-convergence was tested. The results showed that for the region as a whole, the municipalities have the two types of convergence, in addition to the convergence. The conditional ��-convergence proved to be poor, since the convergence velocity was greater than in absolute ��-convergence, and consequently a shorter half-life, being a reduction of two and a half years. This shows that the variables used in conditional ��-convergence (Firjan health and education), contribute to reduce the income disparities between the Northeastern municipalities.
