Subarctic thermokarst metagenomes

Thermokarst lakes are important landscape features in the transitioning Arctic and are a hotspots for greenhouse gas emissions. However, the dynamics of these gases in such systems are still not fully understood. Terrestrial-to-aquatic connectivity can influence gas emissions through variations in organic matter input, which fuels methanogenesis and affects methanogenic pathways. To investigate these processes, metagenomes were collected in northern Quebec along a thermokarst formation transect, spanning from a palsa (a remnant of permafrost) to thermokarst lakes at different stages of formation.
