El 15 de septiembre de 1574, el rey Felipe II, a instancias del síndico Bernat Guinovart, concedía a Algemesí la segregación del municipio de Alzira a cambio de 8.000 ducados. Algemesí consiguió así la condición de Universidad, hecho que le permitía tener cargos administrativos propios y celebrar mercado propio.

EN: An outstanding 16th-century figure in the history of Algemesí. On 15th September 1574, King Philip II, at the request of the syndic Bernat Guinovart, granted Algemesí the segregation of the municipality of Alzira in exchange for 8,000 ducats. Algemesí thus obtained the status of University, which allowed it to have its own administrative offices and hold its market.
