Background: This study examined ways of understanding and responding to sources of mistrust and misinformation about COVID-19, and aimed to develop a sustainable model for community health engagement to enhance research literacy about COVID-19.
Materials/Methods: The study assessed two interwoven, complimentary community interventions: 1) Test community dialogue events as a way to engage communities in discussions about COVID-19 research data and recommendations, and 2) Test a Community Health Worker intervention to address individualized information needs as well needs related to health and social determinants of health. Participants recruited from community settings were invited to participate in both interventions.
Outcome/Impact: This study refined community-engaged research approaches to enhance the process of building and sustaining trust with communities. The study developed processes and resources to assure individuals had the tools and information to make well-informed choices about how they responded to COVID-19.
