We performed global run-on sequencing in the livers of fasted and refed mice in order to build a comprehensive map of the transcriptional changes in the liver in response to feeding. We further looked at the livers of mice lacking Akt (AktDKO) or Akt and FoxO1 (AktFoxo1TKO) to assess the role of insulin signaling in mediating this feeding response. With this method, we identified 599 feeding-regulated transcripts out of a total of 7,505. We took a particular interest in the long noncoding RNAs identified with this technique, of which there were 396, with 37 being feeding-regulated and 6 of those being dependent on Akt for their expression.
