Rhodopseudomonas palustris CGA009 Raw sequence reads

Rhodopseudomonas palustris is a phototrophic a-proteobacterium. Under anaerobic conditions, R. palustris uses photosynthesis to capture light as the energy source and uses either organic compounds or CO2 as the carbon source. It can also grow heterotrophically under aerobic conditions. Because of its versatility, R. palustris has been used as the model system to study how different metabolisms are integrated and regulated in response to environmental changes of light, oxygen and the level of different nutrients. The first R. palustris essential gene set has been determined recently for aerobic growth in rich medium (Pechter K.B., et al., 2016). Here, we continued the effort and used Tn-seq to identify the essential genes for R. palustris photoheterotrophic growth. Comparing to the previous report (Pechter K.B., et al., 2016), 172 genes were identified as essential only under such conditions. Analysis of these genes revealed the processes important for bacterial photosynthesis.
