This study tests whether terrestrial contributions to aquatic bacterial diversity influence the metabolically active (through sequencing cDNA libraries constructed from 16S rRNA transcripts) or total (via sequencing the 16S rRNA gene). We sequenced a transect through University Lake, Bloomington, IN, USA (including nearby terrestrial soils).
