Viruses of pathogenic fungi. Human clinical isolates of pathogenic fungi are host to divergent mycoviruses

We carried out total nucleic acid sequencing on virus enriched supernatant from 7 selected fungus cultures, identifying 11 species of RNA viruses. We also carried out rolling circle amplification and Illumina sequencing on 61 cultures to look for ssDNA viruses. We filtered 14 that matched our cutoffs for inclusion, however subsequent investigation suggested they represent reagent contamination rather than mycoviruses.
