Human gut microbiome sequencing during a high fiber diet intervention

Shotgun sequencing of fecal samples from 20 individuals before and during a high fiber, food-based, diet intervention. Individuals increased their macronutrient fiber intake by 25g/day on average. Samples were sequenced using Illumina short read sequencing and run on a GC-FID to detect short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) abundance. We sought to examine whether a diet intervention for two weeks would alter the microbiome composition and abundance of measured SCFAs.
