资源简介:
This collection comprises images and a report from a Basic Analytical and Descriptive Historic Building Recording at Clifford School, 108 Psalter Lane, Sheffield. The work was carried out by York Archaeology in December 2024. The methodology for the historic building recording comprised a Basic Analytical Record (South Yorkshire Archaeology Service 2023), which approximately equates to a Level 2 survey (as outlined in Historic England 2016). The original 1832 school (Building 1) is one of the earliest surviving structures along this part of Psalter Lane, and has historic connections to the Wilson family of Sharrow Snuff Mills, a significant local family in the 18th and 19th centuries. The school's name derives from the Wilson's former mansion, in the grounds of which the school was built. The later 19th century 'Sunday School' (Building 2), link range (Building 3) and outbuildings toilet blocks (Buildings 4 and 5) are of lower historic and architectural interest. The survey has provided a record of the historic buildings on site proposed for conversion and demolition to an appropriate level, as recommended by South Yorkshire Archaeology Service, on behalf of Sheffield City Council.
