The project has been undertaken to elucidate the mechanism associated with heat stress tolerance in developing wheat, to remodel the starch biosynthesis pathway and to study the effect of terminal heat stress on yield of wheat. Goal: To decipher the thermotolerance mechanism of wheat during grain-filling stage. Relevance: Climate change has severe effect on the growth and yield of heat sensitive crops like wheat which provides 12% of the carbohydrate and 20% of the calorie in the diet. The grain-filling stage is critical and even slight variation in temperature affect the quality and quantity of the grains. The present investigation will provide the information for novel stress associated genes and proteins as well as some of the new members of starch biosynthesis pathway. It will also help us in elucidating the tolerance mechanism of starch biosynthesis pathway, so that the information can be used for the development of climate smart wheat crop.
